Hostility, Resistance and Hope: Presenting LGBTQ+ Asylum Claims

📅 13 May 2026
🕛 12-2pm
📍 Online + In-person at Willkie Farr & Gallagher

Join Allan Briddock (One Pump Court Chambers) and Dr Cathy Jaquiss (Rainbow Migration) for a focused session on how LGBTQ+ asylum claims are presented and litigated in the UK.

Cathy will present findings and reflections from her PhD research on how the concepts of space and affect inform LGBTQ+ asylum litigation. This includes how subtle forms of hostility can impact lawyers’ ability to present these cases, how lawyers engage with problematic expectations of LGBTQ+ people, and how lawyers harness emotions of anger and hope.

Allan will reflect on how Cathy’s research can inform the litigation of LGBTQ+ asylum claims and legal practice more broadly.

In-person attendees can stay for lunch after the session.
