Where members or staff make use of AI tools, we are guided by the principles set out below to ensure full compliance with our legal and regulatory requirements.

Core Principles Governing AI Use

1. Accountability – Human supervision is essential at all times. Members retain full responsibility for any work produced with the assistance of AI.

2. Confidentiality – AI must be used in a way that safeguards client confidentiality and complies with all relevant data protection obligations.

3. Security – Any AI systems introduced into the chambers’ environment will be assessed to ensure they meet appropriate security standards and protect sensitive information.

Permitted Uses

AI tools may be used for purposes such as:

  • Conducting legal research and producing first drafts of summaries or chronologies
  • Assisting with the initial drafting of standard legal documents, which are then subject to thorough review.
  • Supporting administrative functions, including scheduling and billing.


Prohibited Uses

Members do not use AI tools for:

  • Replacing professional legal judgement or decision-making.
  • Handling sensitive client data without adequate safeguards in place.
  • Generating content that is false, misleading, or deceptive.


Training and Oversight

Chambers’ internal policy on the safe use of AI is regularly reviewed and updated in light of developments in law and technology.
