Stephen Knight took part in an international team of experts who conducted a fact-finding mission in Syria regarding international crimes committed by the Syrian government a few weeks beforehand.

In February and March 2026 Stephen took part in an international team of experts who conducted a fact-finding mission in Syria regarding international crimes committed by the Syrian government a few weeks beforehand.

The team uncovered evidence of widespread targeting of civilians and people uninvolved in combat, thousands of people arbitrarily detained and subject to inhuman conditions and torture, and the displacement of approximately 190,000 people.

On 28 September Stephen spoke at an event at the United Nations in Geneva to launch the team’s report on these crimes. The report details the evidence gathered by the fact-finding team and the conclusions that they reached.

The report will now be considered by the United Nation’s mechanisms monitoring Syria. It is available here.

Stephen is available to work on Syrian asylum claims and in appropriate cases may be able to accept work as an expert witness.
