Before commencing pupillage, Emma was a legal assistant for a top ranked immigration barrister. In this role, she assisted with direct access immigration and asylum cases on matters concerning refugee, ECHR and public law.
Alongside this Emma worked as caseworker for Advocate, the Bar Pro Bono Unit, supporting individuals to find pro bono assistance from barristers. She worked in all areas of law as the General Caseworker for a year before becoming the Public Law Caseworker. She also co-led the Court of Protection and Court of Appeal Schemes and was responsible for cases referred through these pathways.
Emma has undertaken various volunteering roles including, most recently, for Lawyers Against Poverty and as a legal observer for Green and Black Cross. She has also volunteered for the Free Representation Unit in the Social Security Tribunal, as a Welfare Rights Advisor for BPP’s Legal Advice Clinic and as a Migrant Support Volunteer at St Vincent’s Support Centre in Leeds.
Emma is supervised in pupillage by Charlie Peat and Keelin McCarthy.
