FAMILY STATEMENT – pdf version for BBC & Wales OnLine ON CONCLUSION TODAY – INQUEST

A three-week inquest in the South Wales Coroner’s Court before HMSC Graeme Hughes concluded last week. Evidence was heard relating to the death of Mohamud Hassan, which occurred the day after he spent time in police custody.

The jury returned an open conclusion reflecting the mystery of Mohamud’s death; eminent experts in toxicology, pathology, neurology and cardiology could not provide anything more than possible explanations for his death.

In response to Mohamud’s death, South Wales Police have since made changes to the questions asked by the custody staff of arresting officers, in order to establish a more complete picture of a detainee’s health and behaviour.

Harriet Short and Meghan Curran were part of the legal team representing Mohamud’s family along with Daniel Machover of Hickman & Rose Solicitors.

The family statement can be found here. The case was covered in Wales Online and the BBC
