Roshni is a specialist family law barrister known for her calm authority, meticulous preparation, and genuine compassion for the people she represents. She accepts instructions across a wide range of family matters, with particular experience in public law and complex private law children cases.
She is especially skilled in working with vulnerable clients and is frequently commended for her empathetic approach. One instructing solicitor described her as someone who can “put even those going through something unimaginably awful at ease.”
Roshni is developing her practice in the Court of Protection, where her experience in deprivation of liberty (DoLS) work places her in an ideal position to handle applications concerning vulnerable adults.
Family law
Roshni maintains a broad family practice across both public and private law proceedings. She represents parents and is regularly instructed to represent children through their Children’s Guardians both in Rule 16.4 private children cases and care proceedings. Roshni often acts for parents in care proceedings with cognitive difficulties and mental health issues.
Roshni is regularly instructed in cases involving allegations of serious domestic abuse, including physical, sexual, emotional abuse and neglect, coercive and controlling behaviour and parental alienation.
Before joining One Pump Court, Roshni practised at a specialist family law set where she primarily represented local authorities in public law proceedings. She acted in a wide range of public law cases involving complex issues including: allegations of abuse, intra-familial child sexual abuse, cases with parallel criminal proceedings and deprivation of liberty safeguards. Roshni developed a valuable insight into parental expectations of local authorities that she brings to her current practice representing parents and children.
Court of Protection
Roshni is committed to expanding her practice in the Court of Protection. Her background in acting for local authorities and representing children and young people in DoLS proceedings provides a strong foundation for working on cases involving adults with significant vulnerabilities.
Her calm, sensitive approach and strong communication skills make her well‑suited to navigating these often delicate and complex matters.
Prior to the Bar
Prior to pupillage, Roshni worked at a leading London law firm, assisting with a busy caseload of public and private law children cases. Roshni worked on cases involving issues of domestic abuse, non-accidental injury, sexual abuse, parental alienation and FGM. She worked on the following cases:
The Local Authority v Mother & Ors [2020] EWHC 1216 (Fam) (26 February 2020) – assisting the team acting for the intervener.
A (A Child) (Rev 1) [2020] EWCA Civ 731 (15 June 2020) – assisting the team representing the child.
Alongside studying for the BPTC, Roshni volunteered for the Personal Support Unit charity (now ‘Support Through Court’), assisting litigants-in-person navigating civil and family law proceedings.
