Margo Munro Kerr represented student activist Sarah Cotte of the SOAS 2, who was acquitted following trial in the Old Bailey of offences under s12(1A) of the Terrorism Act 2000.

Sarah made a speech at a rally on 9 October 2023 in which she expressed “unconditional solidarity” with the armed resistance in Palestine. She was arrested by counter-terrorism police and charged after her speech was posted by a critical account on X and went viral. The prosecution alleged that Sarah was making a veiled reference to Hamas by referring to armed resistance in Palestine. Sarah gave evidence at trial about her anti-racist, anti-imperialist politics, and the moral and legal right to bear arms to resist occupation and colonisation.

Margo was instructed by Zachary Whyte and Ruby Breward of Sperrin Law.
