Meghan Curran represented the family of Alex Duce in an inquest taking place between 11th and 22nd August 2025. The inquest focused on the role played by Gwent Police in the days leading up to Alex’s death. Alex died in hospital of self-inflicted injuries on 16 September 2022, following police forcing entry to her flat and finding her on 11 September 2022.

Alex’s family described her as a beautiful person who always made others laugh. She loved to sing, and was a fun, bubbly young woman.

The jury concluded that there had been missed opportunities to intervene and support Alex appropriately. The jury also concluded that there was insufficient policy and procedure in place in respect of Method of Entry kits, leading to an ‘unacceptable’ delay.
