Sophie Walker co-publishes article on the UK Human Rights Blog

Pupil Sophie Walker has co-published an article with solicitor, Samuel Genen on the UK Human Rights Blog regarding a recent High Court challenge to custodial order impose by the magistrates court for non-payment of the council tax.

The claimant, a single mother on benefits was sent to prison for over 80 days despite making attempts to make payments to the council to discharge the debt. The case is part of a initiative by the Centre for Criminal Appeals, a legal charity to challenge unduly harsh sentencing practices. Prior to starting pupilage, Sophie was the founding Director of the Centre and helped to launch this project.
