Sarah-Jane Ewart, Margo Munro Kerr and Meghan Curran’s clients acquitted of burglary in protest trial at Cambridge Crown Court

Sarah-Jane Ewart, Margo Munro Kerr and Meghan Curran’s clients acquitted of burglary in protest trial at Cambridge Crown Court.

The defendants were charged with burglary arising from their involvement in rescuing 18 beagle puppies from MBR Acres, a breeding facility for beagles used in laboratory testing.

The defendants each admitted their involvement in rescuing the dogs, but said that as their conduct was not dishonest, the elements of the offence were not made out.

Following a 6-day trial, on 12 January 2026 all three defendants were unanimously acquitted following just under 90 minutes of deliberation.

Sarah-Jane and Margo were instructed by Zachary Whyte of Sperrin Law. Meghan was instructed by Jenny Winter of Hodge Jones & Allen.

Testimonial received: “Barristers Margo, SJ and Meghan slam dunked this case. They are extraordinary advocates, sublime technique”. Zachary Whyte of Sperrin Law
