Crime

One Pump Court Crime provides high quality advice and advocacy in the most complex and serious criminal cases. Our members defend in courts throughout the country, often in cases attracting significant media attention.

We have considerable expertise and experience in defending all types of criminal offences, including homicide, terrorism, drug trafficking, armed robbery and sexual offences. Recent instructions include defending cases investigated by Counter Terrorism Command (SO15). We are able to provide specialist advice at all stages of the criminal process and have members who are direct access qualified.

We are specialists in cases involving financial crime, with marked success in defending prosecutions brought by all major prosecution agencies, including the Serious Fraud Office and HMRC. Members have recently been instructed to defend individuals charged with foreign currency fraud; MTIC fraud; rare earth metals investment fraud; and fraud committed by extensive online bank account hacking. We regularly undertake high value confiscation cases, in both the criminal and civil forums. In these cases, our clients have included company directors and employees of high profile institutions.

We provide advice and representation in the full range of ancillary criminal proceedings, for example: confiscation under POCA in the Crown Court, forfeiture in the Magistrates’ and High Court, non-conviction Criminal Behaviour Orders and orders under the Sexual Offences Act 2003.

In addition to conventional criminal defence work, our members frequently mount public law challenges to the actions of the state. We have made numerous successful claims in respect of the acts of courts, tribunals, the police and other state bodies. This area of our work has led to members appearing in the Supreme Court arguing novel points of law.

Outside of domestic work, One Pump Court Crime also encompasses an international element. Members have been involved in cases before international tribunals, including the International Criminal Court (ICC), the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC), and the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR).

Practitioners regularly contribute to journals and textbooks, and participate in training events for professional colleagues.

All members of One Pump Court Crime provide advice on appeal against conviction and/or sentence following trial and pursue those appeals where appropriate.

Members of the Prison Law Team specialise in advising on and conducting appeal proceedings on behalf of those represented by other counsel at trial, frequently appearing in the Court of Appeal in such matters. We can be contacted directly by prisoners in writing at Chambers’ address, or alternatively instructed by solicitors in the traditional manner.

We can provide a comprehensive range of representation to suit all levels and types of driving offences.
